Dr. Ramgopal Mettu conducts research in the application areas of computational biology, immunology and robotics. Though seemingly disparate, his work is tied together by novel algorithmic approaches in machine learning and discrete optimization, and has resulted in new (and useful) problem formulations and algorithms in these application areas. Dr. Mettu received his BS, MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. Since then he has held appointments at Dartmouth College (as a postdoctoral researcher) and UMass Amherst (faculty member in Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Tulane University (faculty member in Computer Science). Dr. Mettu’s work has been recognized with the NSF CAREER award (2007), Lilly Teaching Fellowship (2007) as well as best paper awards.
